Taylor Wessing raises the bar with dedicated fibre network from Geo
Geo, a leading provider of dedicated fibre networks, has signed a long term contract with European law firm Taylor Wessing for a dedicated fibre optic network between its new London offices in New Street Square, EC4, and it’s Central London datacentre. The solution is built utilising Geo’s high speed optical fibre network, which in London runs deep underground through the Victorian sewers.
Taylor Wessing required an optical fibre network in order to ease growing demand on its communications infrastructure, but wanted it to be delivered at a reasonable cost. It also wanted to ensure business resilience by having a diverse data and voice route in place.
“As a busy European law firm, we’re increasingly producing a large amount of data as well as transporting it over the internet and in between offices,” says Tim Hyman, IT Director at Taylor Wessing. “The bulk of our communication with clients is also now online, and we’re providing more and more online services to them. We therefore need a robust, high speed fibre network in order to carry and manage all that information. We also identified that we couldn’t run our business effectively using a standard connectivity to the InterXion datacentres – it could be a potential bottleneck. That’s why the only suitable option was fibre.”
Taylor Wessing chose Geo as its optical fibre network provider because it was one of the few companies who could deliver an end-to-end solution quickly and cost-effectively. Hyman, says: “Geo offered us a really compelling solution. They provide us with a dedicated pair of fibres, over which we currently run a 10 GB/second connection, however we could easily raise that to 50 GB/second should the business require it. We’re essentially future proofed and can massively increase our capacity with relatively little disruption thanks to Geo’s fibre.”
The use of dedicated fibre will give Taylor Wessing flexibility and scalability enabling it to future-proof its network. The European law firm is confident that the optical fibre network and datacentre links will give the company at least 10 years of extra data and voice capacity.
“Law firms like Taylor Wessing are increasingly coming to Geo for dedicated fibre,” says, Chris Smedley, Chief Executive of Geo. “They have a huge amount of data running through their networks and they need a communications infrastructure capable of providing high-speed connectivity. By using dedicated fibre from Geo, Taylor Wessing can be assured that it has capacity to meet its communications needs for the next decade.”
